Important Teething Milestones for your Cranky Baby!

Paediatricians usually recommend introducing solid food into a baby’s diet when they are about 7 months old. At this age, most babies will already have developed their first teeth! Teething occurs most commonly at the 4 - 7 month mark, but some can begin as early as 3 months.

Milestones:

  • 3 to 7 months - Bottom two front teeth (lower central incisors) are usually the first to appear
  • 6 to 8 months - Upper two front teeth (upper central incisors)
  • 9 to 11 months - Upper two teeth flanking the central incisors (upper lateral incisors)
  • 10 to 12 months - Bottom two teeth flanking the central incisors (lower lateral incisors)
  • 12 to 16 months - Second teeth from the back (first molars)
  • 16 to 20 months - Pointy teeth flanking the lateral incisors (canines)
  • 20 to 30 months - Furthest teeth at the back of the mouth (second molars)

The entire process for primary teeth emergence will usually take about 2 years, and most kids have all 20 primary teeth by age 3. If your child’s teeth development is much slower than this, do consult your doctor for advice.

Symptoms

Kids may drool more and feel the urge to chew on things as they begin teething. The process can be painless for the lucky babies, but some may experience irritation and discomfort as swollen and tender gums are common symptoms. That may cause a slight increase in your baby’s body temperature, but not to the extent of a fever.

This new teething experience may cause them to feel cranky and cry more during the process, disrupting their eating and sleeping patterns. But fret not - this is perfectly normal! Even adults feel cranky after a tooth extraction, right?

Are teethers any good?

Chewing on teethers is a good way to help your kids ease the discomfort and satisfy the urge of biting! Chewing allows them to get some relief by applying some pressure on their sore and tender gums.

We at Little Bearnie pride ourselves on making the best silicone teethers in Singapore! Our teether products come in different shapes and sizes, and we even do personalised wearable accessories for your little ones to chew on!
